Breed Notes Firstly, I would like to thank each of the major winners for letting me know of their results at the recent East of England, where Nick Smith (Tentola) drew an entry of 56. Made up of 25 males (4 absent) and 31 bitches (5 absent) Nick Smith last judged at Birmingham National in 2018 and along with his wife Ann, they have the Tentola affix. I understand the ring was a good size, close to catalogue sales, refreshments, loos and shaded by a big tree so no excuse for not adhering to all the Covid rules organised by the society with plenty of signage showing entrances and exits. Twinkling Star) Mejola Dangerous Liaison won Limit for Avis Annable, bred by Jo White he was born in June 2016 (Ch Corydon Once In A Blue Moon ex Corydon Femme Fatale for Mejola and is in fact a full brother to the winner of the Open Class, the recently crowned Ch Mejola Fate and Fortune ShCex owned by Jo White. Although alone, Shelley Skinner won Veteran with her Nikal It’s Gud To Be Black, also another holding a Veteran Warrant (he was the first of our breed to gain one!). After some deliberation, more celebrations were called for as Tom, Ladnar Mustriharder took his 1st CC for Dave and Sue, what a way to celebrate your birthday then Dave, 70 years young and a CC to make the day memorable. RCC to Jo White, BPD to the MP winner, and BV to Shelley Now to the ladies, Duna Jones and Josh Blackburn won MP with Erjon Ebony Jewels, born in November 2020 out of Erjon Esmay and sired by their own Erjon Eraser. Ingledene Midnite Skye with Fivejays for Marion Radford-House, she is a full sister to the RCC winner at SCCA, bred by Val & John Geddes, by Ingledene Well Sooted out of Ingledene Sno Wanda A new name in Lilith Nar Sule of Kelekona, owned by C E Cooper from Huntingdon, won Graduate. Sired by Corydon Riffson out of Rayawna Nightingale and born in November 2019 bred by Mr A Fox. Stefani Flower, from Ceredigion took her blue, Serenlas Heaven In Blue to win PG. Sired by Multi Ch Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano out of Serenlas Keeping Faith, she was born May 2018. Tom’s dam, Ladnar Inkheart won Limit for Dave and Sue (Ladnar Harvey Moon JW ex Ladnar Full Circle) Duna and Josh won Open with Erjon Exclusively Special, a blue by Ch Erjon Ebony Joker out of Erjon Everlasting Blue at Keikosands, bred by Duna. Veteran went to Stefani and her sable, Serenlas Obsession; known at home as Inca, sired by Ch Ingledene Late Nite Legend out of Serenlas Made To Walk in Sunshine and was born October 2013. Lilith Nar Sule of Kelekona also won the Special Beginners Bitch class and then won Best Special Beginners overall. BCC, her 2nd went to the Veteran bitch who recently annexed her `1st CC from Nick’s wife at the recent EACA and with it BOB and also Best Veteran In Breed. RBCC, I think her 4th such award was Erjon Exclusively Special for Duna and Josh who also won BPB and the BPIB. Thanks for ringing Duna; I hope you home in time for the match as I know you stayed, as did Stefani for the group. The latest BRS has been issued, covering January-March 2021. Again it is interesting reading for some as many of the litters registered were born at the back end of 2020 which has resulted in 173 new registrations from 32 litters, math’s was never my strong point but that would give an average of 5+ per litter. Interestingly, there are a few registering 2 and even 3 litters, all in close proximity of each other. How this complies with the various licensing issues only they will know. There are 7 new listed Imports from Russia (3); Serbia (3) and 1 from France. Only 7 changes of names but 98 transfers of ownerships, 4 Exports are recorded to Switzerland, Finland, Denmark and Iceland. In the Health section there are NO recorded Roughs going through the KC /BVA Eye schemes – maybe due to Covid but with all the puppies born, I cannot quite understand this. However, 19 Roughs have been HD tested with scores varying from 6 to 56 but overall the average was approx 12. Perhaps someone could let me know the average score expected for the breed please. There were more Collies going through the DNA schemes, 1 Clear for CEA/CH but 13 affected. For DM, 2 are recorded as affected, 9 as Carriers and just 3 clears. MDR1 had 4 affected, 8 Carriers and just one clear. Finally, through DNA testing just 1 collie is recorded as clear from PRA Testing your litter is expensive but can save so much heartache later on and as a breeder, surely we owe it to the breed and your buyers to produce as healthy puppies as is possible. Finally some news in from Mary Scholefield who has let me know that after 35 years as Treasurer to the Lancashire & Cheshire Collie Club, she has decided to retire – well done Mary and in all those years, she tells me she has never missed a show – that is exceptional and well deserves a round of applause.
