Breed Notes There is little good news on the show scene at present, with the announcement that Scottish Breeds has cancelled which is only to be expected under the current Covid issues and would have been held indoors at the Ingliston Show Centre. What good news there is concerns the published details of the EACA shows, planned for April and all being well, to comply with all current regulations, a risk assessment has be published and is available, not only on the Club web site but also Higham Press where the schedules are also available. Any changes, in line with Government requirements will also be included. If all goes well, there is a planned Championship Show with CC’s for Roughs and non cc for Smooths and the Club Open show at the usual venue of Littleport Community Centre, Ely, Cambridgeshire. Let us hope that by then, many of will have received “The Jabs” and that we may be able to return to a similar normal life. Continuing on from 2001, we look back to 2002. There were a total of 37 Sets of CC’s on offer, with Midland Collie heading the show calendar. Winners here were Sandiacre Schumaker and Eilroy Silver Thistle at Rayvel from Judges Trevor Hayward and the late Mary Farnes. There were 11 new Champions, in order of gaining their titles: We had to wait until Bath Ch show before our first Ch was crowned, this was Jasand Something Blue for Seriema judged by Albert Wight, and if I recall, he went on the take a Group 2 and ended the year with Top Dog for the year. In bitches, Lynmead Simply Charming also gained her title. The next show was Southern Counties, with the late Pauline Hayden centre stage. It was a good show for our breed as our own 3 generations of Blue merle bitches took the Pastoral Breeder stakes and in the Pup of The Year Stakes, Antoc Diamond Days took a creditable 2nd and later in the year went to the finals as the winner, a Dachshund had left the country! In the breed, it was a Jasand double with Ch Jasand Going Places and a new Ch in Jasand Blue Vein at Birkmyre gaining her crown. Scottish Collie, judged by the late Jean Lawson saw our next Ch in Eilroy Silver Thistle for Rayvel winning. Leeds with Jo Bispham judging saw another Ch and another Blue merle in the form of Ch Karava Kontention winning Darlington saw yet another blue merle dog gaining his title from Geoff Duffield when Ch Atendus Illicit Love won his 3rd CC Sandiacre Schumaker travelled to Ayrshire and collected his 3rd CC from the late Tony Jane whilst at Yorkshire, Amalie Deep In My Soul and Jopium Caress at Carostar also gained their titles from Chris Casling and Fran Kaye respectively Our last Ch for the year was Ch Samhaven Coral who won at London & Provincial from Sheila Telford.
