Breed Notes
13th August 2021

Firstly I must start these notes with confirmation from the Secretary of the Collie Association that there will NOT be an additional charge added to any entries for the forthcoming Ch show to be held jointly with Birmingham National. There was a grave mis-understanding between the Officers at the National and all communications thereafter. All references to this additional charge have been deleted from the original details published by Fosse and anyone requiring removal passes for dogs entered only at the CA should see Secretary, Miss Sheila Telford, at the show, should you think this applies to you.

Lots of celebrations to report on this week as our 9th & 10th show of this most different year were held. Firstly the judging at Bath, where Clive Lunt (Louarne) was centre stage for his first collie appointment, Clive already awards CC’s to Bulldogs, Great Danes and Giant Schnauzers to my knowledge and this was his first appointment in the Pastoral Group and roughs were 2nd in the ring following the Schnauzers, so not too early a start for some

Held on Tuesday, the entry was somewhat depleted by those who could not attend and those intending to go but breaking down on the way to the show. There were, originally, some 32 males with 13 shown absent and in bitches 41 with 10 shown absent but at the end of the day our breed now has 2 new Champions to add to the list.

Many thanks to John & Caroline Tipper who sent down a copy of the pages and to those winners who took the time to let me know of their wins on the day – it really does make a difference to these notes to hear first hand of your wins, so keep up thge good work.
Dog CC, his 3rd, following on from his recent wins was Tom, Ladnar Mustriharder and this added to the last 2 CC wins recently, this now allowed Sue & Dave Randal to go away to Malta to reflect on the last few weeks and to add another new Ch to the Ladnar kernel, he is, if I recall the 3rd Ch for them.

Standing second in Limit, to Tom, was Melissa Lockyer and her dual CC winning, Think of Me Prince of Sunlight at Gataj (Imp Hun) whose details were given when he took his 2nd CC at the EACA show earlier.

Never give up, as after 41 years of showing Roughs, (and Smooth Collies) at last Marianne Benton had the thrill of making up her first rough Champion, in the now, Ch Brooklynson Jayne Russell at Oakestelle, who gained her 2nd CC earlier at Leeds and now joins the upper house.

A lovely email from Margaret Shipp confirmed that her lovely Gillyflower Della Bucca Delle Fate (imp Italy) had taken the RBCC. She is sired by More and More Della Buca Della Fate out of Rather Be Della Buca Delle Fate, bred in Italy by Lisa Ricciardi and born January 2017.

Melissa also won BPIB with Gataj Good Time Girl, and was short listed in the group, judged by Mrs R Parry, she is a sable, born 18th December last year and sired by Perfect Timing du Clos de Sea-Wind out of Nasty Girl du Clos De Sea-Wind

Best Veteran, the only one present, was Gina & Peter Stillwell’s Bellawave Caught In A Dream, by Wicani Poetry and Prose out of Seryphina So In Love with Bellawave and she was born April 2014, so is only just a veteran lady.

Now to our next Ch show, another Club show, Midland Collie, and thanks to Show Secretary, Sophie Wray-Ramsden who sent down a fully marked catalogue, so here are the details. Held at a new venue of Edingale Village Hall, Tamworth, there was an entry of 118 waiting for the two judges. Paul Battigan (Roclynn) who judged the dogs and Sam Wrisdale (Sachenda) took on the ladies. Referee was Andre Scott and Shelley Skinner (Nikal) had the SAC classes.

Although still under Covid restrictions, catering was provided for those who had ordered by the Committee and many a “lunch box” was consumed on the day, which was somewhat overcast but dry. With plenty of room, on the ground the show started but with some spectators in the form of Rene Cozens, Pat Wilkinson and Alan Jeffries, all of whom appeared to be enjoying the day but were well “wrapped up” in case of the changeable weather.

Paul last judged in the UK in 2017 when he also judged the dogs at London Collie, based in Ireland he has produced many winners both at home and abroad and is a respected FCI judge. His entry was only missing 6 males from the original 45.

Lovely to see a bigger MP class, 9 with 2 missing, and this was headed by Revdvicki Tahitian Pearl at Tiganlea, bred by Vikki but now owned by John & Caroline, she is sired by Fridens Extra Chance at Salsina out of Erjon Esme at Revdvicki.
