THE FUTURE
THE PAST

***Scottish Collie Club & Ayrshire Collie Club joint competition 2014 - Collie Of The Year, Kennel Of The Year, Progeny of The Year

Calculated by Scottish Collie Club on awards at both Shows***

We started in Rough Collies in 1982 with a sable and white bitch from Tom Walls kennel Fellview Miss Scarlet. We decided to go to an exemption show with her and she got a minor placing. We then went to an open show but did not get anything, but you know what, like countless other people we got the bug, but soon realised she was not good enough and we went back to Tom Walls kennel and bought a Tricolour Bitch, Fellview Black Satin. She was by Karava Kornishman but unfortunately we were given the wrong advice when her ears were light through teething. The lady who ran the training classes said to bring her to her house and she would shave the hair which would sort it....... argh!!! If only we had known....... unfortunately she had a pancreas problem and was never shown, but she was one of the most intelligent and clever dogs that we have had.

We decided to try breeding our sable bitch and we took her back to a Tri Dog at Tom Walls kennel, Aberthorn Aphrobeat and she had 6 puppies. Unfortunately our bitch had serious eclampsia and we had to have her put to sleep, which left us with the daunting task of hand rearing her litter at 7 days old. We managed, I don’t know how, but with help and advice they survived, and we kept a sable bitch. We took her to our first Ch show at Manchester 1986, and were placed 4th minor puppy..... we thought we had won Crufts!

So that was us on this wonderful journey with all the highs & lows of this mad world called breeding and showing Dogs.

It was a privilege to hand out CCS in dogs and bitches at SKC Ch Show 2002, and I have judged in Germany, Russia, England and Ireland and it has been a wonderful lifetime journey. I have been lucky to have had some success and made so many close friends and shared the laughs, beers and tears along the way. It has been a long apprenticeship and still continues to this day, hopefully, we will have left something to give the future breeders of this wonderful breed, our Rough Collie.

May I say to old and new breeders, no dog is perfect, or human either, as Take That says in the song, 'have a little patience'.

We breed Rough Collies in all 3 colours, bred for temperment, and style. Our kennel is situated 10 Minutes from Edinburgh Airport,
Scotland, and visitors are always welcome.

To everyone, too many to mention, we thank you all.

Robin

Jimmy Tait's critique LKA 2012

Blaikie’s Kourika Klear Konnection, his head pattern took me back 30 years which proves the correct head can stand the test of time regardless of fads & fashions. As usual from this kennel his colour is first class & well presented, excellent make & shape, movement good, especially good front extension, good topline & tail carriage. Would like to see him in full coat

Best Puppy Bitch, Best Puppy in Breed, and Best Puppy in Show - Ayrshire Collie Ch Show October 2013
Critique - '6 month old little blue baby with one ton of charisma.....showed herself off to the crowd like a veteran. Good rounded bone, neat feet, lovely make and shape, all in good proportions. Nice coloured coat beautifully presented. Nice dark eye, good ear carriage right on top, very alert. Good head patterns, but just need to fill out in foreface and muzzle but she certainly has time on her side to do that. Moved fine for a baby her age. Pleased to see her go on to BPIB, BPIS under BIS Judge Lyn Maxwell.

Critique 'Blaiklie’s Kourika Karazmatic, lovely coloured blue in excellent coat & condition. A bit heavy for me but could not be denied her place as she has a clean head, correct ear placement, lovely expression, super front & depth of chest, good bone & tight well padded feet. Shown in tip top condition & moved out really well' . Judge Mrs S Clark

CH WILLOWDENE DOUBLE OR QUITS AT WASSAIL 3CC, 3 RCC - MURPHY
Ir Ch Rosschell Bobby Dazzler at Wassail x Wassail Dyna at Willowdene

Murphy all the way from the Wassail kennel in Ireland. Thank you to Di Ware for this extrovert character who will be mating a few of our girls very soon.

At his first show, Murphy won BPIB at Working and Pastoral Breeds of Scotland - Judge P Brooker, and then gaining 3rd in Puppy Group - J Ritche and has been placed at all shows he has attended. To top it all under the Late Jimmy Tait at LKA this young 11 month pup was awarded the RCC what a honour under this great man, we are so proud.

Jimmy Tait's critique on Murphy LKA 2012

Ware’s Willowdene Double Or Quits at Wassail - I believe has recently changed hands. Superbly presented tri, every hair gleamed, super quality head & a wonderful expression from a most appealing eye. Beneath the profusion of his well fitting jacket is a well muscled racy outline, super mover with drive & extension which won him the RCC. If this continues with maturity will move up a notch.

Kourika Karrizma - Judges critique - 'Post Graduate 7 (1)
1st Blaikie’s Kourika Karrizma – My star of the show she completely stole my heart and so aptly named as she was full of charisma. A feminine version of her sire who is also a favourite of mine. Immaculately turned out tri with melting expression, correctly placed dark almond shape eye, well placed ears which she used well. Lovely shape with level topline and good reach of neck. Good bend of stifle nice neat feet and short hocks. Very sound mover. I was delighted to award her the CC and to see her go on to BIS. I’m sure the other 2 won’t be far away.'

and to top a wonderfull weekend off her Father Willowdene Double or Quits at Wassail ( Murphy ) - above right - Dog CC at SKC Judge Terri Brand & RDCC at Scottish Collie Judge Tony Leverton thanks again to every one for congrats & messages to say we are over the moon is an understatement every body welcome to party at Border Union Robin & Gill

SKC Judges critique 'Blaikie’s Willowdene Double or Quits at Wassail  -  Very pleased we waited for him. This lad is now coming into his own and can only keep getting better. Lovely masculine head with nicely rounded foreface & well placed stop. Dark almond shaped eyes that all combined to give a sweet melting expression. Lovely arch of neck into well placed shoulders. Good front angulation and slope of shoulder. Well balanced throughout. Superb temperament – very alert and responsive to handler. Coat was the blackest of jet black, straight and harsh -  enhanced with a full white collar. Immaculate and well presented. Stood four square on neat well trimmed feet. Firm back with slight rise over the loin. Moved out easily and effortlessly covering the ground with ease. So very pleased to award him his 1st CC and am sure the next 2 will follow soon. BD CC'

Scottish Collie Judges critique '2nd. Blaikie's Willowdene Double or Quits at Wassail Yet another top quality male rather unfortunate to have met 1 in such good form, beautifully balanced head finer in foreface than my winner good eye with nice ear carriage give a nice masculine expression strong well muscled neck with plenty of length good slope to shoulders plenty of rib cage, very well balanced all over, good angles to rear, a long flowing tail neat hocks and feet which I love to see when asked to move away he went like a proverbial train lovely to see, jet black coat very attentive to his handler, a very nice boy who is going to trouble the best RCC very well deserved.'
