East Anglian Collie of the Year Contest

The East Anglian Collie Association’s annual ‘Collie of The Year’ award was initially established in 1990 as the national ‘Pup of The Year’, (POTY), contest, and was confined to Rough Collies.

To qualify, Rough Collie puppies had to have won a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place at any Championship Show licensed by The Kennel Club in the year preceding the final, which always took place in January.

The contest has always been judged by one Breed Specialist and one ‘All-Rounder’, their identities being kept secret until the day of the contest. The POTY was originally conceived as an evening social event, held in conjunction with a Dinner Dance at the Officers’ Mess, Duxford, near Cambridge.

Puppies compete for the Repnor Gold Challenge Trophy with a smaller version, known as the Washbay Trophy, awarded to the runner-up.
