Smooth Collie

Many thanks to the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation to judge Smooth Collies at their open show, and their hospitality on the day. Thanks must also go to my stewards, Mary and Pat, for their hard work. I was thrilled to receive such a high paper entry, and even more thrilled when most were present. Some of the decisions were very close, and I thank everyone for accepting their placings in such a sporting way.

V D/B 4.

Such a super class to start with, all 4 would have been worthy winners.

1st Benton’s Ch Alopex Marionette of Oakestelle, this blue bitch is a favourite of mine having seen her grow up from a young puppy to the 10 year old she is today, on her birthday. She has a good overall outline, with a super neck onto a good front. Her upper arm is of good length and she has a good length of back. Her head is feminine with a lovely flat skull, no hint of coarseness, lovely dark eyes and well set ears which she uses non-stop. On the move she has reach and drive. Best Veteran, and I was delighted to see her awarded Best Veteran in Show, well done.

A very close 2nd French’ Ch Foxearth Flock Master for Breckamore JW,  7 year old tri dog. He has a lovely head with flat skull and well set, dark eye and good ears giving a sweet but masculine expression. Very good outline, with good length of back and hindquarters. Moved and showed very well, just preferred the neck of the winner. Happy to award him Best Dog

3rd Russell’s Manordeifi Satin Doll of Koczkodan

P D/B 1

1st Glover’s Stormsett Snow Crystal 10 month blue bitch who enjoyed her day out. Clean wedge head, with good almond eyes, well set, although I’d prefer a shade darker. At a difficult stage of her development as she needs to lengthen in back. Could have benefited from being moved a bit faster to get into her stride. Best Puppy and then RBPIS, well done.

PG D/B 5(1)

1st Russsell’s Koczkodan Serenity, I really liked this 2 year old tri bitch. Another with a super outline with a lovely reach of neck and good length of back. Good front and rear angulation, which allowed her to move freely and with reach and drive. Good, rounded bone and neat feet. Loved her eye and expression, clean wedge head with a flat skull and good stop. Well set ears which she used well. Showed non stop. Reserve Best Bitch and Reserve Best of Breed

2nd Russsell’s Koczkodan Midnight Sun, 13 months sable bitch of a very similar type to the winner. Many of the previous comments apply here. Very pretty with a lovely eye. Ears are well placed, but just a little light compared to the winner.

3rd Howard’s Jack Mack’s Va Buidhinn of Shandlmain (imp)

OD 2(1)

1st Bell’s Koczkodan Nostromo 2 year old tri dog. Another male of good size and masculine. Nice outline, with a good shoulder and length of back, with a good length of tail. Liked his head, a clean, flat skull with well set eyes and good stop. Would have preferred slightly tighter ears. Moved and showed well. Reserve Best Dog.

OB 6(1)

1st French’s Breckamore Blossom, loved this 3 year old shaded sable bitch. Has substance but femininity.  A super outline with a good, well arched neck and lovely length of back. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Super front and rear angulation which allowed her to move beautifully round the ring, keeping her topline well. Such a lovely, soft expression. Beautiful head; clean, wedge with a flat skull, well rounded muzzle and just enough stop. Super dark eye combined with well placed ears, which she used to advantage. Pleased to award her Best Bitch and Best of Breed, and I was delighted to watch her win Best in Show, very well done.

2nd Russell’s Breckamore Bittersweet for Koczkodan, 3 year old tri bitch, and again, very similar to my winner. Loved her head, super eye, ears and expression. Had a lot of what I was looking for; outline, angulation and balance. Just not quite as settled on the move as my winner.
