Bournemouth 2018
Rough Collies

Thank you to all the exhibitors, who entered under me and with only one exception accepted my placings gracefully. I was very happy with all my winners and enjoyed my first CC judging appointment of your lovely breed. I am certain you are all aware that Rough Collies are a high maintenance breed, which is why I have to mention here one big concern of mine.

There were quite a few truly badly groomed exhibits shown under me, dogs, which were so badly groomed that even with some effort it wasn't possible for me to part the coat down to the skin. I normally never penalise so-called 'man made' faults when I am judging but when it comes to bad preparation of the dogs, especially when the summer temperatures were so high that a badly groomed-out dog will actually be in danger of a heatstroke due to the fact that there won't be any air movement possible down to the skin, that's where I draw a line. So if you feel, your dog has been placed lower than you expected or not at all, please do check your dog for solidly matted undercoat and for your dogs sake, do remove it.

MPD (1) 1 Lockyer's Riverside Song Xellent Winner At Gataj (Imp Rom). What a lovely promising baby this eight month old boy is. Very well balanced and all parts of his body in proportion to his size, lovely head and expression, well arched neck leading into correct shoulders, nice bone and body, slight rise to the loin and sound hind quarters.

PD (3) 1 Shipp's No More Heroes Du Clos De Seawind NAF TAF (Imp).

This must be the first time that I have awarded a Res CC to a puppy in any breed but this sable boy really impressed me for overall balance, breed type, temperament and soundness. Of course one can see that he still is a baby but to my eye he has so much potential for a very special male, that I couldn't deny him this green card. Presented in excellent body and coat condition and moved at a correct speed. Well done!

2 Newton & Patterson's Darahill Xanadu. Slightly larger than first but well balanced and in nice proportion. Really liked his head shape and expression, good neck and chest, sound hindquarters; I would prefer a little tighter elbows on the move.

3 Tipper's Tiganlea Good To Go.

PGD (3) 1 Lockyer Gataj Beau Of Surprises JW. Very well presented Tri, liked his overall balance and rich tan markings, good head proportions, would prefer a slightly larger eye, nice angles front and rear, correct length of back, moved very well.

2 Marques Deanjan Dynamite Boy. Very well presented mature male of almost 3 years of age, pleasing head properties with very good expression, good neck and front, I would prefer slightly more length to his back, moved well.

3 Scamp Aaronwell Ayebeecee.

LD (8,1) 1 Page's Lynmead Amalie Bring Me Back JW. I really liked the overall balance of this shaded sable boy, so very well presented and all male, lovely shaped head with well placed ears and eyes giving him a very sweet expression, correct flat skull and correct length proportion of skull and fore face, well arched neck going over into well placed shoulders, straight front and deep chest, good length of back and correct rise to the loin, sound hindquarters, moved really well coming and going with nice reach and drive.

OD (6,2)
1 Falletto's Multi Ch One Extraordinary Blu Di Cambiano. When this absolutely stunning blue merle boy entered the ring, I can honestly say I got goosebumps. What a fabulous representative example of this breed. He was the type of Rough Collie I remember from the late seventies and very early eighties, bred and shown by some very clever breeders in Italy and also Germany. This boy has the dignity and beauty asked for in the standard with the most beautifully balanced head, well placed ears and eyes, beautiful sweet expression, perfect flat skull and two correct parallel straight lines, which are equal in length when viewed from the side. His well arched neck fits well into his correctly laid back shoulders, straight front with a deep chest and well sprung ribs, correct rise over the loin and well muscled hindquarters; strong hocks, which are well let down. He is such a typical Rough Collie on the move, never leaving any doubt of his breed's original purpose of being a Sheepdog! I absolutely love him!!

2 Congdon's Jugband Blues Du Clos De Sea-wind Via Aaronwell. Another beautifully presented blue merle boy with a very nice, slightly heavier head than first, correct ear and eye placement, giving him a sweet expression, lovely well arched neck and good straight front, good length of back and good topline, sound hindquarters, moved very well viewed from all angles. Pushed hard for the Res CC.

3 Collino Wicani Altitude At Imaginist.

MPB (6)
1 Beaden & Arrowsmith's Saganan Blue Diamond. Very shapely blue merle baby of great promise, lovely feminine head with two parallel lines of a neat flat skull and correct muzzle, slight stop, beautiful long neck and excellent shoulder angulation, straight front, well bodied for her age, enough rise to her loin and well angulated hindquarters, moved so very well coming and going with a correct amount of reach and drive. Presented in perfectly prepared show condition.

2 Lockyer's Gataj Girl's Best Friend. Unlucky to meet first in such lovely condition but I am sure, this girl too is one to watch in the future. Lovely balance and outline; nice head proportions with sweet expression, well arched neck of very nice length, correctly placed shoulders and nice rise over the loin, sound mover and very well presented.

3 Margett's Collingvale Cava.

Very feminine sable girl, nice overall balance and outline, good head with well placed eyes and ears, nice expression, good neck and front, well sprung ribs and correct length of back, sound hindquarters, moved well. I would prefer a better coat preparation.

2 James' Old Gold Gates Fifty Fifty At Deanjan (Imp). Very nice blue merle girl of good type and overall make and shape, lots to like about this one, just felt that she was very much on the thin side here today.

1 Shipp's Gillyflower Della Buca Delle Fate (Imp). Beautifully presented sable girl of lovely breed type, really liked her overall outline, very appealing head proportions with a good flat skull and well rounded foreface, lovely dark eyes, which are well placed and nicely set ears giving the desired sweet expression, well arched neck leading into well angled shoulders, deep chest and correct rise over the loin, well angulated hindquarters with nicely let down hocks, moved really well viewed from all angles.

2 Tungate Prince Of Sunlight Let Me Love You. Not quite sure why this lovely feminine girl is called 'Prince' as she is definitely not masculine. Such an appealing head, correct wedge shape with well placed eyes and ears giving her a very sweet expression, good length of neck and well placed shoulders, straight front, correct topline with a slight rise over the loin, moved well, presented in good show condition.

PGB (7,1)

1 Flower Serenlas Obsession. Very much out of coat this girl, but a very honest type and one of the soundest movers here today; I had no hesitation giving her this class and would love to see her one day with all her gladrags on. Very good head properties with well placed eyes and ears, good expression, good length of neck, straight front, good length of back, slight rise over the loin and sound and enough angulated hindquarters, I would prefer a slightly longer tail.

2 Newton & Patterson's Collingvale Cassis Over Darahill. Feminine Tri with good outline and overall balance, good head, very good neck and front, well bodied and well presented, correct length of back, moved ok. 3

Legge Erjon Eleni At Kalzan.

LB (5,1)

1 Randall's Fata Turchina Ladnar Di Cambiano (Imp). This blue merle girl really impressed me due to her excellent movement, which captured my eyes as soon as she went round the ring, loved her outline and overall balance, lovely feminine head of correct shape, well placed eyes and ears, nice expression, well arched neck and well placed shoulder with good length to her upper arm, deep chest and good length of back, sound backend; presented in very nice coat condition.

2 McDade's Beldones Sweet Illusion With Lyndale. Slightly smaller than I like but well balanced and of good proportions, appealing head with nicely placed ears and eyes giving her a sweet expression. Good neck and front, well sprung ribs and good length of back, sound hindquarters, moved really well.

3 Waterhouse's Gift Wrapped With Love Lynmead.

OB (7,2)

1 Smedley's Antoc Soul Diva. Well presented ultra feminine girl with nice overall outline, make and shape; lovely feminine head with well placed eyes of really dark colour, equal length of lines of skull and muzzle, sweet expression; very nice neck and well angled shoulders, straight front, deep chest with well sprung ribs, good length of back and slight rise to loin, which she held well on the move, sound and well angulated hindquarters with a nice bend of stifle; moved soundly.

2 Walder's Beldones La Vita Bella For Hanvale. Slightly larger than first but still feminine and well balanced, really pushed hard for first place, just missed out due to the slight lack in coat, which I am sure once regained will put her in a good position for the big green cards. Very nice head proportions with good flat skull and correct parallel lines of skull and muzzle, well placed eyes and ears, nicely arched neck and correct straight front, well angulated front and rear with nice length of back and good rise to the loin, very sound mover viewed from all angles.

3 Benton's Brooklynson Jane Russell Of Oakestelle.
