ROUGH COLLIE DOGS

I would like to thank the committee for allowing me the honour of judging Rough Collie Dogs at their Diamond Anniversary Championship Show. I had the pleasure of being directly involved with the club from 1980 to 2008.  Firstly as a Committee member then for many years as the secretary.

These days entries are vastly down on the good old- days when a club Ch show would have Collies in the 300’s. However East Anglia is a club that is still going forward. Today they had a total entry of 140 dogs making an overall entry of 197 this must be apart from Crufts one of the largest entries this year.

Just a couple of points I would like to make: Tricolour has always been my favourite  colour, however It’s not enough to be just black. Tri’s also must have the true sweet collie expression which comes mainly from the eye, this I’m sorry to say is missing from many of today’s tri's.

Also whenever you hear all-rounders talking about Roughs all they seem to have to say is about the poor movement. Well they are WRONG if my entry today is anything to go by, because I can honestly say that there was not one bad mover. ( I have always been a stickler for movement so I don’t say this for the sake of it.)

OPEN DOG: (13)
A class full of quality dogs
1st    Smedley’s    CH ATENDUS ERASURE   This is what I was looking for a dog that was all male but had the desired sweet collie eye, giving him a dreamy expression. His S/W coat fitted him perfectly no fluff just long straight hair.  Used his ears well, he just floated around the ring. In the challenges he just seemed to get even better. He must have thought I’ve done this before now I need a little bit extra. Pleased to award him the CC I think this is his sixth.
2nd   Quince’s        KARAFAYE BLACK QUILLIAN   A cracking Tri absolutely super shape presented in prime condition, Shown to perfection, Lovely head pattern not quite the sweetness of eye of the winner, Movement was superb, hope he does not have to wait too long to get his title.
3rd       Geddes’s       CH INGLEDENE  SPIRITS ARISE

JUDGE : BRIAN HOUSE
