Rough Collie Judge Cathy Proctor

I would like to thank the committee for their excellent hospitality & the invitation to judge this club open show. Most of the exhibits were very well presented, but I was disappointed at the number of dogs (some quite young) with filthy teeth.

VD (2,1a) 1 Scamp’s Marketdene Apple Of My Eye, 9 year old shaded sable. Good head with well placed ears. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Tail a little short & carried over his back on the move. Good coat, well presented. Moved true.

MPD (1) 1 Abbott’s Cotswoldway Brave Hearted, 6 month old light sable. Backskull drops off at the moment. Eyes a little small, well placed ears. Tail of correct length & carried well. Good conformation which showed in his good movement.

PD (1) 1 Gladwell’s Jotars Blue Moon, well marked b/m. Beautiful, melting expression. Correct wedge shaped head, smooth in outline. Correct stop & blunt muzzle. Well placed ears. Well angulated shoulders & well let down hocks. Excellent conformation. Carried tail well. Good coat, well presented. I loved him! RBD, BPIS.

JD (4,1) 1 J Blue Moon; 2 Patman’s Pickpocket via Samhaven, nice up to size 13 month dog. Correct wedge shaped head with correctly placed ears. Pleasing expression. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Teeth could be cleaner. A little proud of his tail & fidgety. I understand this was his first show; 3 Lockyer’s Redola Just In Time for Gataj.

YD (2) 1 J Blue Moon; 2 Rae’s Antoc Soul Mate, nice face & expression. Good wedge shaped head with correctly placed ears. Teeth very dirty. Chest a little narrow. Could do with bodying up, but this is likely to come with age. Moved well.

ND (1) 1 J Blue Moon.

GD (3) 1 J Blue Moon; 2 Road & Fox’s Alanita All That Jazz, 2 year old well marked tri with a nice shaped head. Ears a little wide set. Melting expression. Moved OK; 3 Hogg’s First Love for Barnabus.

PGD (3,2) 1 First Love for B, a little on the small side. Nice expression but reluctant to use his ears. Nice head. Correct conformation. Tail on the short side.

LD (4) 1 Gladwell’s Jotars Midnight Moon, handsome tri dog with true collie expression. Well laid shoulders, good reach of neck & correct angulation. Good depth of chest & spring of rib. Well muscled up & moved very well. In good coat & well presented; 2 Walton’s Prince of Sunlight Stardust over Walstar, blue with rich tan markings. Expression affected by colour of eyes. Shorter in head, but correct wedge shape with equal parallels & correct stop. Correct conformation; 3 Skinner’s Nikal It’s Gud To Be Back.

OD (3,2) 1 Jotar’s Kingfisher Moon, litter brother to 1 in LD. Good size handsome tri dog. Stood with “impassive dignity”. Well arched muscular neck into well laid shoulders. Correct angulation front & rear. Deep chest & well sprung ribs. Jet black harsh well fitting coat. Well presented. Moved very well. A little proud of his tail, but controlled himself in the challenge. BD.

Correct length of body with rise over loins. Well let down hocks. Profuse coat, but well fitting. Moved very well. BV; 2 White’s Maqueeba Toast The New Year, nice expression. Good teeth.  GB (2) 1 Broadhead’s Rhodabern Whisper And Kiss, correct wedge shaped head with pleasing expression. Good conformation. In good coat, well presented. Moved well; 2 White’s Rhodabern Grace And Favour, litter sister to 1. Similar in appearance but less coat at present. Fidgety today.

PGB (2) A.LB (4) 1 Lockyer’s Gataj Willow Of Surprises, shaded sable with good coat, well presented. Correct wedge shaped head with well placed ears giving a nice expression. Lovely shape with correct length of body, well sprung ribs & slight rise over loins. Moved very well. RBB; 2 Abbott’s Radiant Crystal Star of Cotswoldway, correct shaped head with nice expression. Correctly set ears, but a little light. Moved well. Less coat than 1; 3 Horsley’s Marchere Mystique.

OB (7,5) Two nice bitches. 1 Loader’s Ingledene Lace’n’Promises at Allangill, this bitch caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Up to size tri with jet black coat & correct markings of deep tan & brilliant white. Correct wedge shaped head with blunt muzzle. Well arched muscular neck into well laid shoulders. Muscular thighs & well let down hocks. Her excellent conformation was demonstrated by her moving round the ring with drive & effortless grace. She looked as if she could keep going all day. Was pleased to award her BIS, with the agreement of the Smooth Collie judge. BB, BIS; 2 Gladwell’s Jotar’s Enchanted Moon, lovely b/m bitch. Excellent angulation. Well sprung ribs & correct length of body. Well arched neck into well placed shoulders. Moved well, unlucky to meet 1.
