Ayrshire Collie Club Open Show
Sunday 8th June 2014

Firstly, I would like to thank the officers and committee of the Ayrshire Collie Club for inviting me to judge their June open show, I thoroughly enjoyed my day. Secondly, thank you to the exhibitors for coming under me and making my first breed club appointment so special. Some general comments teeth were dirty on a few of the exhibits and many of them were carrying a touch too much weight which was spoiling movement and rear movement is becoming an issue, on the whole though most of the dogs were well presented.

Veteran Dog/Bitch (2,0)
1st Nicholson’s Lomondvale Love Bug
7 year old sable bitch who commands attentions, stands off her handler showing nonstop. She has a good wedge shaped head, with a good eye, to be super critical they could be a little sweeter, well set ears which created a pleasing expression and a nice flat skull, good reach of neck with well placed shoulders, lovely length of back flowing down to a nice bend of stifle. Standing off from her she has a lovely outline and she powered around the ring with ease. I was pleased to award her Best Veteran in Show.
2nd Houston’s Aldermeade Paris Height at Mounthope
At 9 years old this boy still has a lot to offer the breed. He has a lovely wedge shaped head with a lovely eye shape and when he used his ears this created a sweet but masculine expression. He has a good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and a lovely length of back. He still has lovely movement, even if a little sluggish. It is a real shame he doesn’t show himself off and command the ring and because of this he had to give way to the bitch.

Minor Puppy Dog (4,0)
1st Brooker’s I Am Fantastic Du Bois Des Amazones for Corisian
This young man showed like a veteran! Standing off from him he just commanded attention. An 8 month old glamorous golden sable boy, he has the sweetest of heads and once you have tackled the puppy fluff you really see what he has to offer. Nice wedge shaped with a good eye shape and well placed stop, although still a baby he has the flattest of skulls with well placed ears, he does have a good reach of neck to be super critical I would prefer a touch more but he is well proportioned with a good length of back and a nice turn of stifle. He moved around the ring so well for a puppy and was presented in wonderful condition. Although a compact dog he has all the factors there to grow on and trouble the best. I would love to see him again in a couple of years.
2nd Fox’s Alanita Razzle Jazzle
This young lad was very unlucky to meet 1. His first show and at just 7 months it was nice to see a puppy of good size. He has a lovely wedge shaped head with good eye shape and well placed ears creating a masculine expression. Lovely arched neck which he used to his advantage with a lovely length of back and nice turn of stifle. He has the typical puppy roll which is to be expected of his age and he was also presented beautifully. Another puppy who has the factors there to do well and again I would love to see him in another couple of years.

Puppy Dog (1,0)
1st McCarte’s Lynmack Walk All Over You at Roughrigg
This boy was my little heartbreak dog. He is just my cup of tea! Although he stood alone he was a worthy winner. Beautiful wedged shaped head with good eye shape and a nicely placed stop, combined with his well placed ears they created a sweet but masculine expression. Lovely reach of neck which is well arched and flows down onto well placed shoulder, nice length of back and well turned stifle. He moved so well outside but lost all confidence in the challenge after being moved inside however he was immaculately presented.  A lovely sized dog who I would love to see again outside.

Junior Dog (2,0)
1st Blaikie’s Kourika Kleen Sweep
It was lovely to see an upcoming young tri of such quality. He stood and showed so well. At nearly 12 months old he has a lovely wedge shaped head with good eye shape and well placed stop. His ears are correctly placed which he uses nonstop to create a lovely expression which is sometimes hard to find on a tri. Lovely reach of neck which he used to his advantage, with a good depth to his chest and he has a good length of back. He has a well turned stifle which he used to power himself around the ring while keeping his top line nice and firm. It was nice to see a young dog that could actually move well. The change of flooring in the challenge did not affect him and he was immaculately presented therefore he could not be denied Reserve Best Dog, Best Puppy Dog and eventually Best Puppy in Show.
2nd Cloy’s Scarletts Ebony Joker
This sable boy has a lot of good factors about him but would really benefit from some ring craft training. He has a nice wedged shaped head, good eye and when his ears are placed they create a nice expression. He has a good reach of neck with a good length of back. His movement was very erratic and because of this I couldn’t really asses it very well.

Yearling Dog (2,0)
1st Melvin & Jopson’s Starlenga Streets Ahead at Nithview
At just 16 months this boy still has a lot of maturing to do but at present he is pleasing to the eye. He has a good wedge shaped head and although his eye shape is a little rounded he has a well placed stop which creates a pleasing expression. He has a good reach of neck, with well placed shoulders and he has a good length of back, with well turned stifle. He was another who was also well presented. He does however have a tendency to stand very wide at the back and his movement was lose going, therefore he could benefit from some roadwork to tighten this up or it may come with maturity.
2nd Rycraft’s Born to Be Pinot Noir at Rydellsky
This young lad is a nice boy but just was not in the mood to concentrate. He is a glamorous sable boy with a lovely outline to him when stood off from him. He has a nice wedge shaped head, with good stop placement and a nice eye which creates a soft expression. I would prefer a touch more neck but he has a good length of back and well turned stifle. He was also well presented.

Maiden Dog (4,0)
1st McCarte’s Lynmack Walk All Over You at Roughrigg
2nd Brooker’s I Am Fantastic Du Bois Des Amazones for Corisian
3rd Fox’s Alanita Razzle Jazzle

Novice Dog (3,1)
1st Brooker’s I Am Fantastic Du Bois Des Amazones for Corisian
2nd Chirray’s Kourika Black Jake
A 5 year old pleasing tricolour dog. He has a nice wedge shaped head with good ear placement and eye shape which overall created a sweet expression. He has a good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and a nice length of back. Due to his lack of coat he had to bow down to the winner but what he had was well presented.

Graduate Dog (1,0)
1st Rycraft’s Lynmack Say You Will at Rydellsky
Shaded sable and white dog of 2 years who stood alone but deserved his placing. He was a lovely shape to him if only he would really show it off! Nice wedge shaped head and although not the sweetest of boys he still carries a masculine expression. He could do with a touch more neck for me but he has a good length to his back. His movement could still to tighten a little bit but her moved around the ring with ease.

Post Graduate Dog (3,0)
1st Paterson’s Wilmaranna Portrait in Blue
This blue boy is now 7 years old and it was lovely to see a blue of such good colour. Although not on top form he has the most pleasing outline. He has a lovely wedge shaped head and although he doesn’t have a lot of stop, what he does have is well broken. He has a nice eye shape and even though his ears are a little wide set he has a soft and masculine expression. He could still show the youngsters a thing or two on movement because he moves well both coming and going and keeps his topline very well.
2nd Rycraft’s Lynmack Say You Will at Rydellsky
3rd McGill’s Paridel Michelin Star

Limit Dog (1,0)
1st Melvin & Jopson’s Starlenga Street Fighter at Nithview
Another dog who is pleasing to the eye. A born show boy with his ears constantly on top of his head, good wedge shaped head with a nicely placed stop, his eyes for me are a little round but he has a masculine expression. I would prefer a little more neck to him but he has well placed shoulders and a good length of back. He moves well and holds his top line well. Like his kennel mate he was immaculately presented.

Open Dog (7,3)
1st Fox’s Alanita Whats It All About
Wow, what a difference a couple of years makes! This boy has finally grown a brain cell or two and got his act together! One I have judged before and I was so pleased to have the opportunity to go over him again. He has a good wedge shaped head with a well broken stop and well filled fore face along with his lovely dark almond shaped eye creating a masculine but soft expression. He has a good reach of neck with a nice depth to his chest, well placed shoulders, good spring of rib and a lovely length to his back with a nice turn of stifle. This allowed him to power the ring and I could tell this boy would happily do a day’s work! His immaculately presented mahogany tone to his coat just commands attention and when he stands and shows himself off he really is a lovely package. He just gets better with age and time is definitely on his side. I was pleased to award this handsome young man Best Dog and Best Opposite Sex in Show.
2nd Hamilton’s Can Ch Milas Dancing Solo
Completely different type to one but he has some lovely factors about him. Although for me his head is a little strong it was nice to see a male of good size. He does however have a good wedge shaped head with well placed eyes and ears which are bang on top which he used nonstop. He has a wonderful shape to him with a lovely reach of neck and a good length to his back. He commanded attention for his well presented golden coat and substance.
3rd Welsh’s Ladnar Perfect Time at Thistlewing

Minor Puppy Bitch (3,1)
1st Fox’s Alanita Winter Jazzmine
Litter sister to 2nd in minor puppy dog and what a wonderful duo they make. Many of the same points apply to this little lady as her brother, only she is sweeter. Another with a nice wedge shaped head, good eye placement and she is also lovely and filled in foreface without any coarseness. Like her brother, her ears are a touch wide but this does not distract from her sweet expression. Lovely arched neck with a good length of back and she has a nice amount of bone. As always from this kennel she was immaculately presented. A happy little lady who moved out so well at just her first show and I hope to see her again in the future.
2nd McLelland &Brotherton’s Willowdene True Ebony at Alauna
Compared to one this little tri lady is very raw, but if time is on her side she could turn into something quite special.  At just 7 months she has a lovely shape to her. Good wedge shaped head with well set ears, her stop does still need to clear but she has a pleasing expression. Good reach of neck, nice length of back and good bend of stifle. She was immaculately presented and is another who I would be interested to see in the future.

Puppy Bitch (1,0)
1st Brooker’s Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian
A profusely coated lady who needs to be handled in order to appreciate what is underneath all the fluff. She commands attention standing as she shows nonstop! The prettiest of expressions is enhanced by her well broken stop and good eye and ear placement. At this time she still needs to fill a little in foreface but that will come with age. Good reach of neck with well sprung ribs for her age. Well placed shoulders and a good length of back only showed off her lovely shape more. She moved out well with confidence and although she still has the puppy roll she has good movement from behind. Unfortunately she was a little spooked in the challenge for Best Puppy in Show but I was still pleased to award her Best Puppy Bitch and Reserve Best Puppy In Show. Another promising puppy!

Junior Bitch (3,0)
1st Blaikie’s Kourika Karrizma
Litter sister to the Reserve Best Dog winner and a lot of the same points apply. She again carries that beautiful soft expression, however she is sweeter. Lovely wedge shaped head with well broken stop and nice eye placement and ear carriage. Lovely reach of neck which is well arched and flows onto well laid shoulders, good depth of chest and well sprung ribs for her age, nice length of back which contributed to her wonderful profile. Another effortless mover from this kennel who was also well presented.
2nd McCarte’s Gloryway Cinderella for Monsolana at Roughrigg
This sweet little sable girl had unfortunately left her clothes at home today but she has nothing to hide. Good wedge shaped head which is also well filled in foreface, nice flat skull with good ear set. Lovely reach of with well sprung ribs and lovely length of back. Her profile is most pleasing and although out of coat, I would love to see her in full bloom. Another who was beautifully presented.
3rd Brand & Reid’s Ronansprey Rumour Has It

Yearling Bitch (3,0)
1st McLelland & Brotherton’s Erjon El Diamante at Alauna
Although this tri girl looks a little large in profile, her quality could not be denied. She has the sweetest of expression due to hear well broken stop and filled muzzle along with her nicely shaped eye and although her ears are a little wide set they are used to her advantage. She has a good reach of neck and depth of chest, and she also has a good length to her back flowing down onto a good turn of stifle. Her short hocks allowed her to move well around the ring. Her only downfall for me is that her colour isn’t as jet black as it could be however she was beautifully presented.
2nd Brand & Reid’s Ronansprey Midnight Kiss
A compact little tri bitch who has a pleasing outline. She has a nice wedge shaped head with a well broken stop with nicely shaped almond eyes however she isn’t as filled in muzzle as I would like which therefore didn’t give her the sweetness in expression that the winner had. Although she does have a good amount of neck, for me I would prefer a touch more as she gave the impression of sitting in her shoulders. She does however have a good length of back and moved very well both coming and going.
3rd Paterson’s Birkmyre Black Mantilla with Wilmaranna

Maiden Bitch (3,0)
1st Fox’s Alanita Winter Jazzmine
2nd McCarte’s Gloryway Cinderella for Monsolana at Roughrigg
3rd Chirray’s Mercytin Queen of Diamonds

Novice Bitch (3,1)
1st Brooker’s Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian
2nd Paterson’s Birkmyre Black Mantilla with Wilmaranna
3rd in the previous class and as her name suggests she is a tri bitch who unfortunately wasn’t in full bloom however what she did have was jet black in colour. She is however a sweet little girl who has a lovely outline to her and she moved well. I would like to see her again once coated up.

Graduate Bitch (5,2)
1st Brooker’s Chantique Simply Dee for Corisian
Wow, what can I say other than my star of the day! This glamorous golden sable oozes quality and just commands attention and in profile she is so pleasing to the eye. She has a lovely wedge shaped head and although not as filled as I would like she has the almond shaped eye that the standard asks for and her ear placement could not be more perfect. These all combined create the sweetest of expressions without any coarseness to her. She has a lovely reach of neck which she arches so well and a good depth to her chest. With well placed shoulders and lovely length of back with well turned stifle and nice short hocks which somewhat seem to be lacking in the breed. She has a beautifully fitted coat that was immaculately presented with not a hair out of place. Her movement is effortless but more importantly she has the best rear movement on a collie that I have seen in a long time. Standing off her she just oozes personality and is a real show girl. It was a real pleasure to award her Best Bitch and Best In Show up against some hard competition.
2nd Corney’s Samhaven Scottish Melody at Yenroc
This lovely lady has a lot to offer, if only she was a little happier with the floor. She has lovely wedge shaped head and although not as much stop as the winner she still has a pretty expression when her ears are used. A lovely reach of neck if only she would show herself off a little bit more! Good length of back with a well good bend of stifle. Unfortunately was a little reluctant to move, but what I saw she carries her top line well.
3rd Coutts’ Eximer Lady In Black

Post Graduate Bitch (3,0)
1st Mitchell & Jordan’s Avonfair Secret Attraction JW
And I am definitely secretly attracted to her! She gave me goose bumps as she reminded me of a girl I used to show. She has a lovely head, with a good wedge shape which is well filled in foreface. She has a lovely reach of neck which is well arched and has a good depth of chest and well placed shoulders. She has a lovely length of back with a nice turn to her stifle and nice short hocks. She moved effortlessly and soundly both coming and going which only enhanced all of her qualities. She stood off her handler showing nonstop and commanded the ring. Although she wasn’t in full bloom, her golden coat was immaculately presented with not a hair out of place. I was pleased to award her Reserve Best Bitch and Reserve Best In Show. I would also love to see her out again when in full bloom.
2nd Brodie’s Shanaburn Magical Kisses
This sweet tri girl was very unlucky to meet the winner. The prettiest of heads with a nice wedge shaped head and well filled in muzzle, good eye shape and well placed ears enhanced her expression. She has a good reach of neck which is somewhat hidden with the amount of coat she has, and she has well placed shoulders with a good spring to her ribs. Good length of back and moved out well. She was unlucky to meet the winner who was more mature than her.
3rd Corney’s Yenroc Fleur Di Ecosse

Limit Bitch (6,2)
1st Mitchell & Jordan’s Caronlea Celtic By Design for Avonfair JW
A recently crowned tri bitch who totally deserves it! Although starting to blow coat now her quality is still all there. She is a very pretty girl who commands attention because of her ring presence. She has a lovely wedge shaped head with nice eye shape and well placed ears that she used nonstop. She has a lovely reach of neck which is well arched and she shows this off so well. Good depth of chest with well placed shoulders and a good length to her back. She has a good turn of stifle with nice short hocks which allowed her to move around the ring with ease. She was beautifully presented as were all from this kennel.
2nd Brand & Reid’s Rosschell Ice Kiss N The Mist at Ronansprey
Another nice bitch but this time a blue. She has a good wedge shaped head with a nicely shaped almond eye. Although she doesn’t have the sweetness of the winner in expression it is still pleasing. She has a good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and a good length of back. She too moved effortlessly and just lost out to the winner on sweetness.
3rd Fox’s Danfrebek Amazing Grace For Alanita

Open Bitch (7,3)
1st Mitchell & Jordan’s Ch Samhaven Classical Music
An old favourite of mine and a worthy champion who is now just starting to show her age, a glamorous sable who was presented in a profuse coat. She has a lovely wedge shaped head, with a well broken stop and nice eye shape. These factors along with her correctly placed ears created a sweet and soft expression. Good reach of neck which was getting hidden from all the coat but underneath she a nice depth of chest and well placed shoulders. Lovely length of back and bend of stifle and she moved effortlessly. Today she just had to bow down to her younger kennel mate. Another who was immaculately presented.
2nd Carmichael’s Danfrebek Truly Magic
Another pretty tricolour who commands attention and another who was a born show girl. She has the sweetest of expressions which is created with her wedged shaped head, well filled foreface, nicely shaped eyes and well placed ears. She has a good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and a good depth of chest. Nice length to her back and she has a good turn to her stifle and she moved with ease. Unlucky to meet the winner today.
