Open Show – 20th January 2013

Smooth Collie Critique – Judge Claire Norman

I would like to thank everyone for the record entry of Smooth Collies for this particular event and was sorry that the weather prevented so many from travelling.  Out of the 24 entered, five lovely dogs came forward for judging.  My thanks also to the Committee for making me feel so welcome.

Puppy Dog (No entries)

Junior Dog (2 entries, 1 absent)

  1. Hayward, Mr & Mrs T, Foxearth Flintab – 16 month beautifully marked blue merle.  Correct masculine head with good expression.  Correct bite and jaw.  Nice body shape although appears slightly long in the loin at present and needs more time to mature.  Good bone and feet.  Correct length of tail. Movement OK but the small ring did not facilitate his longer stride pattern.  Best Dog and Reserve Best of Breed.

Post Graduate Dog (3 entries, 2 absent)
1. D. Howe’s Dawcher’s Dawn Sunrise – 2 year old sable  of good rich colour with correct texture.  Strong head with good ear carriage, expression and flat skull.  Correct bone and feet with well-sprung ribs.  High tail carried over back detracts from overall picture.  Moved okay.

Open Dog (4 entries, 4 absent)

Veteran Dog (2 entries, 1 absent)

  1. Winter & Unwin’s Sturtmoor Alexavier Odyssey at Snowtrekka ShCM. 7 year old tricolor.  Really nice to see this dog again.  Good condition and moved soundly.  Correct skull with lovely eye and expression.  Good front and body shape.  Reserve Best Dog.
